There are installs… and then there are dream installs!
Bringing our robot range picker (the PIK’R) to TPC Sawgrass was one of those moments our entire team will never forget. To work at one of the most iconic golf properties in the world and help automate their driving range operations was truly special.
From the moment we arrived on site, we were struck by how exceptionally the Sawgrass team runs their operation. Professional. Organized. Detail-oriented. Every single team member is focused on the small things that make this one of the best practice facilities in the world.
As with every installation we’ve completed, there are always challenges, no matter how pristine the property.
Even at a facility as refined as Sawgrass, we had to navigate a unique variable: target placement. The mowing team periodically moves range targets, which isn’t typical for most facilities. But at this level, everything is strategic.
Together, we worked through how to:
• Keep targets in fixed zones for optimal robotic navigation
• Maintain flexibility for professional player feedback
• Prepare for adjustments during The Players Championship week
After refining our initial path creation and making a few strategic adjustments, the PIK’R operated flawlessly. The range team was thrilled with the results and that’s always the goal.
One of the highlights of the trip was spending time with the Sawgrass superintendent, who one of the busiest people on property, especially with The Players Championship in March approaching.
Despite his packed schedule, he gave us 45 minutes to:
• Dive deep into how the PIK’R operates
• Compare its weight to their existing system (significantly lighter)
• Discuss long-term turf health benefits
• Share insights on autonomous mowing technology
His forward-thinking mindset stood out. He was already thinking beyond today and discussing autonomous mowers and how emerging technology will shape the future of their course management.
We always value this kind of feedback from leaders in the game. It pushes innovation forward.
At a world-class facility like TPC Sawgrass, efficiency isn’t about cutting corners, it’s about reallocating excellence.
Automation with the PIK’R allows the team to:
• Redirect staff to more member-facing responsibilities
• Focus on turf care and detail work
• Maintain pristine range conditions with less mechanical impact
When a team this elite sees the value in automation, it reinforces why we do what we do.
We’re incredibly proud to now be a small part of Sawgrass’ operation. Building relationships with teams who care this deeply about their craft is what drives us.
We look forward to stopping back in the next time we’re in the area for another installation and maybe, just maybe, sneaking in a round on one of the most beautiful courses we’ve ever seen.
To the entire TPC Sawgrass team, best of luck at The Players Championship this March. We’ll be cheering you on.
